Yes they are!
‘murciélago’.
Circular lace shawl. Pattern by Renate Haeckler.
Finished 4 May 2012.
One of the biggest joys of hand-knitting is being able to choose an unusual yarn, one that has some variegation, some subtle hints of other colors, and then to choose a pattern that will highlight that yarn. Because of this, I have never knit anything in black until now, although black is the color that I wear most often. Simply put, it didn’t seem worth the effort to choose a color that would obscure the complexity of the pattern.
But with lace, where the negative spaces are more important than the solids, black is an ideal shade. And so was born my ‘batty’ (murciélago is ‘bat’ in Spanish) shawl.
Beauty in what’s not there. Not great grammar, but you get it.
